Went out Wednesday with my friend Bill.
We were targeting sheep's Head.
But the water was rough so we didn't make the 20 mile run to the good spots.
Went to Punta Gorda to fish the canal's Bill got 6 sheep's Head fishing shrimp.
I fished a white swim bait alllll day I got 2 bites. Lost one and landed this one.
Still fun to be out.
My wrist is still sore from tossing at the docks.

Morning Norman. Looks like a catch to me! Sorry the big trip was too rough.
Coming to Port Charlotte in July for niece's wedding. Doubt I'll be carrying my rods with me tho! Another friend in Venice wants to take me fishing also so will probably rent a car and hang around for a week or so. Maybe catch you on the water!!

The head boat on beach road in Englewood is a good way to get out on the water and catch some fish.
Went out on it last year good Capitan and Deck hand.
They supply the tackle bait and license All for 1 price.
Caught a mess of fish.
All you need to bring is food drinks and money.
The name of the boat is Reef Raiders
FYI the Deck hand is not paid by the boat he only gets tips for fish cleaning and assisting the fisherman.
So tip accordingly.

Wind has been a problem around Punta Gorda for a while, and the water temperature needs to warm up some, but I have had some luck with redfish lately in the back country between Wineguard Creek and Hobbes Point.

Fished the Reef Raider many times. It's out of commission for repairs till at least March 1st. Great first mate, Brad.

There have been high numbers of Sheephead being caught in Estero Bay, which is inside of Estero Island(a.k.a. Ft.Myers Beach), a ways south of the area this post is referencing. Figured it may be worth mentioning for anyone thinking about wetting a line in the general area of Ft.Myers & Naples on up the coast toward Punta Gorda & Port Charlotte. Water temps are a bit lower than usual & the wind has been a consideration recently, but there are fish to be caught, and those I have seen over the last couple weeks have been in the range of 15” to 20” long…definitely worth a try if anybody has a couple hours (or more) to give to the effort.

Do you need a boat or can you catch a limit 🐟 off the shore? Not much luck off the Venice jetties and definitely not off Sharkey’s Pier 🤔, the last month. Florida’s tough after having boats 🚤 up north and out west for the last 50 years, and now living in “saltwater country” without one 😩…..☘️

Have heard good things from those who have been out on/in boats. I have been fishing from locally accessibly piers & some shore spots with a sea wall that have been yielding trout, whiting, sheephead, catfish, puffers & a gulf toadfish with the majority being sheephead. Been using a piece of shrimp on a plain hook about 15 inches behind a small sinker(just heavy enough to hold bottom in the tidal current at the given time) to catch everything mentioned. As always, you need to have a line in the water to have a chance to catch anything…get out & give it a try.

There’s a reason they call it fishing and not catching.😅😅😅
