12 is not enough. You have over 100 years of combined experience telling you to get a bigger ball and not one saying the 12 inch is OK. It is a no brainer.

I'm thinking I would weld a ring on the back point of the shank near the A in delta and run two ropes. I would use different colors so you can pull from the back side to loosen the anchor if wedged.
If needed you could make or have made a hand crank pulley like you see on the TV show deadliest catch to reel in the ropes.
