Ok according to the Wy game and fish a brown trout lacks spots on the tail and light colored halos around the dark spots, may have some red or orange spots. Distinguished from brook trout by dark spots on a light background versus light spots on a dark back ground for brook trout. Brook trout have light spots on a dark background, some red oar blue halos concentrated on lower half of body. Lower fins and tail have striking white border offset by black. Brook trout have a square tail. Lake trout have light colored spots on a dark background. Distinguished from brook trout by a deeply forked tail and absence of red or pink spots. Splake is a cross between a male brook trout and female lake trout. It can exhibit characteristics of either .

Thanks for the info, Thunderstick. I never heard of Splake B4. Maybe for some reason they don't hybridize here. Good research project for tomorrow, too much already today, it's entertainment time for me around his early evening timeframe.
Your welcome......I have a hard time distinguishing Lake trout from the splake! We have both in the some of the lakes here...stay safe...later.

It’s a brown trout, congratulations!!
Boston is my guess nice fish
Great catch! No idea what it is, though.
I’ll take a stab, super rare bull trout, they get really big.

Brown trout, a nice one at that!!!
[quote=saw1]The markings are definitely not a Lake Trout .
The fins aren't like a Laker either.
The spots are either a Rainbow or Brown.
Difficult to tell from that pic.
When did you catch it?
By the way, welcome to the Stage. 🤠👍[/quote
Yep, Looks like a big Brown to me.
And welcome to the Stage Dave!
Three of my closest lakes have lake trout , Jenkinson , Caples and Union Valley . Sure there are plenty more
You mentioned catching that by an inlet do you mean in saltwater. By the way nice catch.
