Winter Bass at Lake Havasu
Arizona Fishing, California Fishing

After being skunked quite often in my kayak the past few weeks I went out at 11:00 this morning to a 61° overcast day here in Lake Havasu at Windsor Beach. Casting a yellow crankbait into the tules not far from the launch ramp and at Havasu State Park I had one bass hit and lost him halfway to the yak. Within 30 minutes I landed three Largemouth to a little over 3 lb and a fantastic morning of fishing.
What a shock for winter fishing where the water temperature has dropped down to 54° and most Largemouth have gone a little dormant. Casting right up to the tules and bringing it back to my kayak I was in about 5-6 ft of water and the action was hot for a while, so a great day on Havasu.

Nice ones Langer .
Looks like he wasn't real aggressive.
Only one hook but that's all it takes.

👍🎣

Thanks Fred, with a big full moon I'm happy for any kind of bite. I normally don't use this yellow color in crankbaits but it sure worked yesterday. With a very cloudy morning they were loving it but as the sun soon broke out, it all stopped.
I have the best luck with what they call a lime blue that probably imitates a bluegill. These are Ozark Trail lures available at Walmart for $2.16, can't beat that!

Yes KC I went to the same spot this morning in very sunny conditions and never had a hit in the tule area but I started casting near some docks at the launch ramp. Had a huge hit with a big fish and got him about halfway in and lost him and then either he or another bass came after it and grabbed the lure and stayed on for a couple of feet as I'm watching this all through 6' of clear water. So that kind of made my morning!

Try a weedless frog hula popper or wrapper popper

Looking good Langer. I see the crank bait you were using, can you show us a picture of some of the square bills you use.
