Had a good day on the Ohio River. Caught quite a few sauger. Kept a nice mess of males. Caught some really nice females 18”+ that looked to be really egged up but I released them. Caught a dozen or so small ones that I released. The water was fairly clear and the bite was very light and some you just felt weight. I was using a 5/16 oz round headed jig painted red with a 3”Hoochie koochie paddle tail grub in watermelon color with pro cure minnow paste on it. The water was about 25’ deep my line was 10 lb braid hi viz yellow 2 lb dia with about 4’ mono 12 lb leader. Like Gordon said once low and slow if you wasn’t on the bottom you wasn’t getting bit. That’s why I like the 2 lb dia it cuts through the water and I can see the hi viz and tell right when it hits bottom. And they was yummy. I think they’re gills were still moving on their chopped off heads in the bucket when I fried them.

Nice stringer of walleye Mike! IMO they are one of the eating best freshwater fish you can catch, my favorite!

Nice catching there Mike!!! And that skillet full of fish looks delicious! I’ve never caught nor tasted Sauger before. I do like mild tasting fish though. Tight lines my friend.
