For Halloween, nothing would do but some serious pranks. Usually, this would cause the recipient to get up in the morning with trees in his yard be wrapped with toilet paper, or his outhouse being placed upon the roof of his garage.
Now, this didn’t happen to everyone, just folks who had been a little grouchy, or in some way offended the teenage boys who were the ones who did the mischief. Also, keep in mind this was in the days before indoor toilets.
However, these pranks had a way of accelerating, or each year better or worse pranks than in previous years was common. So, in keeping with the acceleration of the level of pranks, or as the pranksters thought up different tricks, one year, rather than outhouses on the garage roof, the instigators chose to take a milk cow and lead her up three flights of stairs and leave her in the High School study hall on the third floor!
Now I don’t believe getting the cow up the flights of stairs to the study hall was na particularly difficult task. However, It was common knowledge that a cow’s legs were not suited to bend in such a way that would allow them to go down hill easily, if at all. I still wonder just how the principal, or whoever took charge of this cow and led her back down these stairs. I suppose this is a mystery until this very day. Just Sayin…RJS

I had steps going into and out of my dairy barn. Cows had no problem negotiating the steps.
Hello DBed: I am glad to know that. It was probably an old wives tale! Just Sayin...RJS

Pranks in the very small Nebraska town are still a thing. Usually it is finding someone's outhouse in the middle of the intersection. In the past some pranks resulted in the law being called.
Classmates and myself would rotate our music instructors VW Beatle. 1/4 turn in her garage by lifting it. Of course this made it impossible to move car forward or backwards. Always required men to come and lift it up and rotate it back! Memories! 😂😂
