I have enjoyed many of your stories and look forward to reading many more. Have you thought about making a tape or a video to pass down to your family about your travels and experiances? I will bet you have a way with the spoken word as you do with the written print.God bless and show that Dr. a thing or two. Bobby from NC

This past week my kidney specialist, when asked my possible life expectancy, said it was two years. Now while this estimate is not concrete, it is probably a good estimate, and could even be shorter! Now remember i am already 89 years old.

So, what would you do if you were in my place? I am open to any ideas. Bear in mind that I have already visited all the foreign countries I ever wanted to visit. Brazil, Canada, Costa Rico, China, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Thailand, Venezuela, and possibly others I have lost track. The other places I would have like to have visited but didnā€™t were Egypt, Australia, and Portugal. I have flown over Greenland on a return trip from Scotland.

In addition, I have already caught all the fish I wanted to catch, Marlin 179 lbs, Snook 12 lbs, Tarpon 60 lbs, Peacock Bass 19 lbs, and Black Bass 9 lbs. None of these were world record but were big enough to satisfy my desire to catch and land them. As far as Alligator Gar, I have caught and landed a large number but nothing over 15 lbs.

So, I suggest you create your own list. You will achieve more if you create a list. Think about the things and places you want to visit. If you had only two years left, you probably would not have time to visit them all or catch all the fish you have targeted. Thatā€™s o.k., ambitious plans will get more done than if you had not planned to accomplish. All the destinations and fish I caught were over a much longer period. You will accomplish more by planning, than just hit or miss!

Remember, you will probably get old and feeble a long time before you accomplish your goals, but having ambitious plans will get you further than not having a plan at all.

Just so you know, I intend to beat the two-year guestimate of my doctor. I hope you do the same. We all have just one life, so make the most of it. God Bless you, one and all! Just Sayinā€¦RJS

No one has easy, pre-packaged answers for you or anyone else in that situation. My brother was given a year after a Stage 4 cance diagnosis. He died after months. Only you can decide what works for you each day.

Love your attitude, you are truly an inspiration to all of us! Love your stories and God bless.
P.S. Just celebrated my dad's 90th on Dec 23rd. He had open heart surgery right about 1 year ago. He is doing very well considering his age. He was not ready to checkout yet, has been given a new lease on life.

I believe that you will prove them wrong. Your knowledge is what you have to pass on now. And I believe youā€™ll be tutoring us for much longer than 2 more years!!!! šŸ™šŸ‘ŒšŸ˜

I think you need to get a new physician!!!! Anyone that predicts your end of life and is great at it should buy a lotto ticket! They call if medical practice as well. My mothers doctors never said she would make it to 97.

My dad, who has been deceased for more than 50 years, was given 5 years max to live. He lived for 13 years. He never told anyone, including my mom, about the 5 year forecast. It is just a "best" guess. Another instance, a friend was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (never smoked). Given 3 years if she went through chemo and radiation or 6 months if she didn't. She chose chemo and radiation. She still only lasted 6 months.

There was once a cartoon of three doctors discussing the patient's needs. One doctor said, "I don't care, let's do the surgery, I had a car payment due!" Just Sayin...RJS

I think you could write your memoirs to leave for family or a book about your journey to 90 and the best and worst changes you have seen in your time.

Don't know for sure, but I might think of making a "good deeds and strong faith" list so I would have a resume to show St. Peter. Standing at the gate and trying to quickly remember might be tough.

Mr. Samples I feel sure you know what to do and what you will do. Forgive us making light of your plight, but I think you posed the question to make us think what we'd do if we knew our date and time. Mission accomplished!

The world needs more positive thinkers like Robert. Just add a zero to that two and you will have a more accurate figure.

What a wonderful and courageous post. Over the next several weeks/months I hope you find your inbox full of good responses so you can aggregate them and publish with credits as a valuable reference for appreciating the precious but limited time we have to find meaning and grace.
