We had the traditional meal. Seasoned blackeye peas, with a large chunk of ham for further seasoning,
hog jowl, seasoned spinach with boiled egg, cornbread and a tall glass of cold buttermilk.

Just wondering how many of you will be eating the traditional New Year's meal today and what foods you eat? For us it will be oven fry pork chops, collard greens, black eyed peas, cornbread, hog jowl (fried and seasoning for black eyes and greens.) I grew up eating these meals on New Year's day and the only times I've missed was when I was deer hunting out of state in SC. However, my wife still cooked these meals and we ate them a day or two later. Happy New Year everyone and may 2024 be a great year for all my Stage friends and families.

No black eyed peas this year I cooked country fried steaks, mashed potatoes, collard greens, green beans because older folks need their vegetables and white gravy because older folks like their gravy 🤣 Hit the spot with everyone in the house 😋 👍

All sounds good except for the buttermilk. We do put it in the cornbread.

I worked at a bakery while in school. Boss was bald. He told me one time that there was buttermilk in the fridge. I said no thank you I don’t like it. He said it will put hair on your chest. I answered maybe so but it takes it of your head. His faced turned red, I don’t think he liked my answer.

In Pennsylvania, we have the traditional pork & sourkraut over mashed potatoes

My daughter-in-law is from western PA and we all had to have at least a taste of sauerkraut yesterday. Brings good luck is her premise.

I work w a guy who is from "central" NJ. He's never heard of pork & sourkraut for new years day. Hopefully her premise rings true.
Happy new years Major

Whatever you folks eat, hope it brings good luck in 2024! We were a bit hungover from hanging late with fireworks so went out to an Indian Restaurant and had lamb korma and spinach/saag. Hit the spot.

Corned beef and cabbage and black eyed peas. Cabbage is for folding money and peas are for coins in your pocket. At least that's what mom taught me.
