Just wondering how many of you will be eating the traditional New Year's meal today and what foods you eat? For us it will be oven fry pork chops, collard greens, black eyed peas, cornbread, hog jowl (fried and seasoning for black eyes and greens.) I grew up eating these meals on New Year's day and the only times I've missed was when I was deer hunting out of state in SC. However, my wife still cooked these meals and we ate them a day or two later. Happy New Year everyone and may 2024 be a great year for all my Stage friends and families.

I enjoy hearing about what you true Southerner's are having. I'm originally from the deep south but have been gone a long time. This is the first year in 48 years of being gone from said place of birth not to have black eye peas on New Year. I guess there goes any luck for me in the new year, but the peas never did their thing for me. Happy New Year anyway.

We had the traditional meal. Seasoned blackeye peas, with a large chunk of ham for further seasoning,
hog jowl, seasoned spinach with boiled egg and a tall glass of cold buttermilk.

All sounds good except for the buttermilk. We do put it in the cornbread.
