Sounds like you have a very nice place and everything you want at that location. That’s a big decision to make to sell everything and to have a place in Florida along with a condo in Ohio. As far as selling your dad’s car; I’ve mentioned to my cousin that lives in an assisted living home to sell her car, she does not drive the car, it sits in the parking lot, and it’s moved by her sister occasionally. My cousin told me the same thing, that she wants the car just in case she ever needs it.

We downsized to a townhouse three years ago, first ones to build in a new development, in a location that we really like. Now there are 128 townhomes in the development. Master bedroom and laundry is on the first floor. Our grass mowing & trimming, shrub trimming, new yearly mulch replacement, outdoor bug spraying, snow removal is done through payment of a monthly $100 HOA fee. There is a pool, gym, pool table, walking trails, recreation center, that are part of our community. Grocery stores, restaurants, Dr. offices, CVS (pickup scripts) all close and some within walking distance. So, what I’m getting at is downsizing for us was/is great, love it. I have more time to go fishing and the boat fits in our two-car garage.

We knew a couple that downsized just as you mentioned with a place in Florida. They did the same thing, winter in Florida and summer back to their home location. That lasted around three years, now they no longer go to Florida.

Do whatever makes you happy. I am sure there are many people enjoying living in Florida for the winter and at another location for the summer.

I personally have a cousin who is a financial consultant. I’ve listened to his advice. I have moved a good part of our savings into a bank that is now giving me a 5.25 interest on my savings. Prior bank was a returning 1.25.percent My savings is fully secured. A return of 5.25 is unbelievable. As on his advice I moved more money into the stock market which is blowing up right now. Also upon his advice, invested in gold! I can’t believe my returns in the last month. By no means am I a millionaire, but have invested well. I truly suggest that folks should seriously take advantage of the economic environment and opportunities that are occurring in the world economic environment today! When nations are at war, its proven that gold investments go through the roof!
