New to NC, living in coastal area but would like to try Lake James for walleye.
Any suggestions for best time of year and techniques?
I live near James, but I have never fished it much.Do know they are in there ,and from what I know local know what ,when, areas. Only thing I do know if you are fishing in warm months don't go on the weekend, lots of boat traffic.Maybe someone else can chime in.

We mainly fish for Smallmouth in Oct Nov and Dec pulling shiners and have caught some nice walleye and perch (by accident) in 40’ of water, a buddy fishes there often and swears by silver 1 oz jigging spoons in 40’ water, he goes at 1st light, water is really low this year so we have not been, here’s a couple pics from last fall.

Nice pics; really big perch.
Thanks for he info.
How is spring fishing?
Well like the earlier reply, lots of pleasure boaters out there in spring and summer… I have seen them run right over planer boards cause they don’t have any idea what they are… I only fish there September thru December

Thanks
There are a lot of boaters everywhere that have no clue about boating etiquette. Sad
Yeah, lots of Bozos… hey what “coastal area” you settle in to… we make it to the NC & SC coast several times a year… we port out of Charleston a lot and hit the reefs… Comanche is my favorite.

We are between Myrtle Beach & Wilmington on Lockwood Folly River.
Keep a small boat in Holden Beach Marina

Still learning offshore & inshore fishing here but starting to get results. This is quite different than SW Florida where I was before.

I was in Wilmington last weekend, 2 guys were fishing from the beach with sand fleas and filled 2 coolers with whiting.
I know I guy that just moved to Supply, NC that fishes there a lot and have been meaning to get down there.

Thanks for the info. Have not done any beach fishing yet but plan to try.
We live in development on Supply / Southport Highway. Beautiful area.
There was a guy 100 yards down from those 2 guys using shrimp, he had 3 in the box... if you have a sand flea rake you will fill a cooler in a couple hours.
