forget fishing at Trillium Lake for awhile ! I hiked in several days ago; all crunchy snow/ice, and the lake is frozen over. Got a couple small Xmas trees, and ran into others doing the same.

Last February I snowshoed in. It is a 6 mile round trip hike. Yes that is trillium lake, covered in snow.

I read an article recently that listed Trillium Lake as a potential ice fishing destination in Oregon? Has anyone out there ever ice fished at Trillium? If so, how can you tell when it's safe to go out on the lake? Obviously I have no experience ice fishing myself so it may be a really dumb question, but I know the climate is far different in places where ice fishing is common. I just wondered how you can tell if it's safe or not?

As long as you want to hike with ALL your gear for miles. Read up on ice fishing safety on any water body. The safety rules wouldn’t be different here in PNW. Every year bunches of people die on Mt. Hood no matter how hard they try to tell them all the safety precautions.

That's what I thought! Lol. I think I'd be way to scared? Maybe I'll try ice fishing if I ever make it to Northern Minnesota in late January?
