Hi All,
I inherited a Shimano Stradic 1000FH spinning reel (2 - 6lb line). Looking for a good but not too expensive rod to pair it up with. This will be used for pan fish and small bass. It comes with an extra spool so I'll probably run one with braid and the other mono. I know there are a lot of options but I'm looking for your opinion.. Thanks, Jeff

I've been looking around myself, and saw an Ugly Stick Lite Pro 6'6" ultralight @ Walmart for $42. Looks like a pretty nice rod for the money. Just a thought.

Here is another Ugly stick that is available at the BassPro shop in Bolingbrook.
It has a cork handle, which I prefer. It’s $49.95. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/ugly-stik-elite-spinning-rod

I was at the Bolingbrook Bass Pro yesterday. I saw the Bass Pro Fish Eagle. It was a 7' Light / Fast / 2 pc. rod.
Online, the Daiwa Presso also caught my eye. Thanks for all your suggestions. I've got lots of time before making a decision.

Scheel’s has Fenwick HMG’s on sale now for $79. I own several and have not been disappointed, in fact I had a 20+ year old Fenwick HMG that I broke due to my own negligence and explained that fact to the company. Had to send in photos of the rod, the original receipt which I actually had in my gun safe and received a new rod in a few days. I was blown away! St. Croix premiere series are also fine rods and can be had for $100 or so when on sale.

Lew’s has some decent ultralight rods about $60. One thing I like about Lew’s rods is the reel seat screws from the top, most other rods screw from bottom and sometimes I screw it loose with the bottom of my hand while fishing. Also makes it comfortable because you are gripping all cork not the fitting.

Fishing in small ponds with panfish bait usually can get a few smaller bass. But Hey, I'll take the big ones also!

Ocuma makes a good ultra lite…some retailers offer free rod replacement should you break one,🐟.

I have a Shimano Symetre reel, not UL, which I have paired with a Shimano UL medium fast action UL 6' rod. The rod is not real whippy and has good back bone for setting the hook. I use it on panfish, mostly crappie and bass. I've found it to be a pretty good combo for just about anything I catch. I've had both for quite awhile so not sure if you can find the same rod.
Hope this helps.

I swear by the Ugly Sticks for the money. I have caught pan fish to Muskys on my UL ugly stick. One day when I am rich and famous I will get myself a nice $200-600 fishing pole.
