My wife fixed the dryness problem by adding rum to the cake. My mother said her nose was numb after eating about half the cake. My wife took great pleasure in telling my mother the cake had half a fifth of rum in the cake.....My mom ate the rest of the cake later.

The only other food that lasts longer is Velveeta cheese. Both a must have for preppers. Besides. You could build a house with enough fruitcake and Velveeta cheese bricks.

That is a negative for me. Every late August I pick Blackberries up around Mt. Shasta where I do a lot of camping and fishing. They grow every where up there and my wife makes, in my opinion, the best Blackberry Pie with home made crust. So I pick enough for 10 pies or more and freeze em so I can get Blackberry pie thru the year till the next August.

Oh you sparked a memory there PNW. My folks used to ship me off to visit my aunt for two weeks for a few summers. Besides the train ride, picking blackberries for cobblers was the highlight of the summers.

If you stand still for very long in the “Pacific Northwest” you will be swallowed up by a blackberry bush. I’ve seen them totally engulf an entire house. Talk about camouflage…
