Here's a picture of my go-to lures for CDFW plants.

For low light and dirty water, you can't beat a black lure -- the contrast is actually better than a bright color.

If you paint your own use flat black and do it a few days in advance.

Mice tails and chartreuse garlic powder bait would well to. Fished 8-14" off the bottom.

I've never ate a fresh water trout that I know of. Whats the reason you don't like them ??

Here it is at the end of the day and I am just getting back to FS. We just haven't acquired a taste for them. Walleye are just hard to beat. And the stocked trout are usually small.

Were you using bait? A lot of times when fish are first planted, they will strike lures but not bait. Power bait will work after they have been in there two or three days and have settled down. When they are first planted, they will hit a lot lot of baits...no matter what color.

Some states don't allow cheese -- check your local regs.
