Of course I remember. We had to work in the fields. Tobacco, cucumber, bean, watermelon. You name it. Strawberry fields before School. My brother and I worked on the farm feeding hogs and washing out hog houses. Money was good and went a long ways. I remember gas was $.50 a gallon. We had to cut wood for the old wood heater. Walk to School carrying our lunch. We may have grown up but memory of how it use to be makes us more appreciated for where we came from.

I remember when gas was around 20cents.
Kerosene was 8 to 10 cents a gallon.

I had 2weeks of unemployment when I took the job on the farm.
$78 a wk. Free house n utilities n a gal of fresh milk a day.

10 1/2 hrs 6 days a week.
Sunday went in at 5am.
When milking feeding n clean up was done I had the rest of the day.
Usually around 10:30
If I worked extra I'd be compensated

I started working when I was 12.
Farms orchards whatever.

30cents for picking a 10qt bucket of cherries in the orchards.

Farm work paid $1.00 n hr.
My supportive (NOT) parents made me buy my own clothes for school.
Forgot one summer setting up pins at the bowling alley 😳

We have stories to tell brother πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

No hogs or feed sacks for me but being a contract painter I wrestled a lot of ladders, up to a 135lb 40 ft aluminum, twirling it like I do fishing poles now, if the arthritis let's me. I go to bed with my wife every night but she never finds me there in the morning. I keep wearing out recliners, but she sleeps better.

10yrs at the orchard as the foreman.
Trees so tall a 24' rung ladder wouldn't reach. Climb the rest n got as much as possible.
Definitely kept me in shape.
Only job I really didn't like was 6 months in n office.
Didn't like working inside.

Can you imagine 12 yr Olds working on a farm or in the orchards now days πŸ€”

NC I know a couple retired masons.
All broken up.
Hands twisted up. Manual labor will do that to a body.

When I finally got a job with the county the kids would come in all puffed up.

Talking about wanting to operate equipment n do construction.

I told them if you get into any type of construction it will be for life if you stay passed 40.

Your body starts getting to aching more. Joints start swelling n cracking.
Your back wakes you up unless your neck gets you first.

I can't speak for y'all but I'd do it all over again if given the chance πŸ‘β˜ΊοΈ

After my first enlistment I considered getting out but no real jobs and they offered a big bonus. So I re-enlisted and stayed in. When the second time came around I had over 10 years so I decided to stay. By stating I got great assignments. Was late by the 3rd time around and was almost at 20. After that I never even considered. Woke up one morning and realized I had 34 years. This was day my driver who was my best friend took a hit in the head right after I exit the vehicle. I knew then I was done. Dropped my retirement package and the rest is history.
After my first enlistment I considered getting out... (show quote)

You paid your dues n then some my friend.
It's your time to relax n enjoy every day you can πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

Spud we'll add that to the list 🀣🀣.
The shot I took to the head in the accident sure didn't help my memory or focus.
I'm working on getting some of it back

As long as we all keep waking up n enjoying the day
That's all we can hope for πŸ‘πŸ˜Š

To keep young you need a girlfriend that is half your age...

I still have my teeth but can relate to many items listed. One that's not there is how many times in a day I forget where I left my coffee cup. But I'm over 65 so maybe I can claim an excuse.

I eventually find mine in the microwave. Where I put it, some time ago, to reheat it.

I’ve decided I’m no longer getting any older, but the warranties on my body parts have completely expired.

The saying goes: Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

Btw: I turned 79 on 11/28. I still do stupid stuff but I do a lot slower.

SOC I figure if we let our inner child die.
We become one of the walking dead.

I served my time as a responsible adult.

Now I have two options.
A well aged teenager or the ever popular crazy old man πŸ€£πŸ€”
