Ben and I went out to the Napa bout sunrise this morning and were on the water a little before 0700.
We started trollin right off and never got a bite.
We then went to one of the sloughs we like and fished 2 different spots there. NADA !
We then went to another slough and fished a mudflat, again, nothing.
We then started fishin on the outside of that slough/mudflat and FINALLY found a few.
I caught 4, 3 were keepers and 1 short.
Ben finally hooked one that was very close to 18 inches so he threw it back.
We left there and went to another spot and fished, no bites there either.
Fished down the shore line back to where I caught the 4 earlier and Ben hooks the big one of the day, a 21 incher.
No other bites there so we move to opposite side of the river.
Fished all the way down the shore with no bites and at the very end of our pass, Ben catches another short.
We decide to go back to the upper river where we started trollin and troll some more, nobites there either.
It's 1130 and we decide to call it a day and get off the water early.
SO, the total was 7 fish. 5 were keepers and 2 were shorts.
We kept 3 out of 5 and they were 21, 20 3/4 and 18 3/4 inches.
Not the biggest fish we caught before, BUT, the biggest fish for TODAY.

Just the one pic before filleting.

Catching, keeping and friendship all added up to a good day on the water it seems Steve. Nice going you two.

Steve, it might have been slow today, but it still beats that stripped critter!

Nice 👍. I didn’t get a hit while surf fishing 🎣 at Manasquan, NJ, this evening.

NJ, the third pic looks like you were sharing the beach with a real fisher

No, it looks like a seal, but a guy with a metal detector flopped onto the beach for his girlfriend.

Hey Jeremy! It was fun even though we had to hunt for the fish but that's part of it!

Nice job guys! I never doubt you two going out and “catching” (unless you’re on my boat, ha!). Ben didn’t happen to keep the carcasses did he? I’m going to run out tomorrow, may have to buy $5 lb whole tuna to use, that’s cheaper than what I get in flats of herring and anchovies at the bait store.

Sorry, I didn't keep them. Would have filleted them and left them with Ben, but not sure he has room in his freezer for them either.

We soak the fillets in Franks Hot sauce for bout 30 min or so and then roll them in flour and fry in a little oil.
If you like the flavor of buffalo hot wings you will love it.
They aren't hot though, just mildly flavored with the Franks.

Yeah, no carcasses in my freezer. Wife went on a cleaning spree before the family showed up for Thanksgiving. I keep grumbling about buying a small used chest freezer for those sorts of things, but there isn't anywhere to put it that doesn't require getting rid of "treasures"

Way to go guys! I got to go to work today, I'd happily go out on the water and get skunked instead.
