We moved to the Green River and would love to see fishing reports!! We sold our boat out of Des Moines and hope to learn more about GR fishing. Thank you for your posts
First and foremost. In your tackle box put a Geiger counter. Actually as I understand it, it's PCB's But check with the locals as to whether they eat the trout or not. If you like salmon the taste better from the sound. It sure is a pretty river though.
Hey Lynn, welcome to the area. I live here in Auburn and fish the lower green river by the Auburn golf course and also over by Auburn/Black Diamond exit (east of green bridge) those two spots I mentioned are usually 2 of the lesser crowded places but have produced a lot of salmon for myself and my wife as well over a number of years. This year I caught enuf coho on the green that I had to give some away lol. And sooooo many pinks you loose count. My wife loves catching the pinks cause she can pretty much land them by herself or until I can make it to her with the net (never fast enuf tho lol) but I don’t usually keep any pinks… although she did talk me into smoking up a few chrome pinks she caught this year on the Puyallup. And of course salmon taste better from the sound (salt), sea lice and chrome bright…doesn’t get much better than that right?! But a bright salmon from the river to me tastes just as well as the ones I caught at Sekiu. Myself I drift fish with bout 6-7 ft. of 12-15 lb leader, Gamakatsu #1 hook and just a small plastic orange bead (5-6mm) in front of my hook. I have guys ask me while I’m fishing and almost every time I leave the river what setup I’m using and when I show them, their shocked cause it’s so simple but works so good for chinook and coho salmon. Hope any of this helps.
