Nice reel! Give it a good cleaning, lube, and replace the Teflon drag washers with Carbontex. You can get a set of Carbontex drag washers from hookless.com for $6.50.

That reel is the same mechanically to the new production 6501 C3 aside from the thumb bar. When you disassemble it, make note of the pin on the thumb bar that actuates the clutch. When going back together, you want the thumb bar to be in the up position so you don't accidentally press the engagement pin into the thumb bar itself.

Unbelievable, what a find. It’s beautiful. 👏 I gotta start checking antique stores, or maybe pawn shops.

Thats got to be your lucky day good fined.
That’s a great find,congrats.
I have one and they're not built like the other ambassadors. It fell apart after about 100 casts. My friend has a reel repair shop and he said many cheap components in these compared to the original 5500's. I uesd it for musky fishing throwing larger baits. Maybe it would be ok for lighter fishing. Sorry, maybe yours will last longer.
