It’s built like a tank sure but heavy as one too, you’re better off with a exceler which can be picked up for around $50-60 on eBay, the 2500 weighs only 7.3 oz (reel only)

Got mine on amazon for less than 100. Very pleased with the reel.

I had the Pflueger President Spinning Combo and it was really good. I don't use it anymore because I lost a part. There are lots of options in terms of rod length and power. Check it out on Amazon. I've heard Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 or Elite are a good option. They're super popular.

I have (2) 2500 Penn Battle 2 they come as a package, rod and reel just over 115 dollars. Very smooth and great drag. I fish mostly for speckle sea trout here on the middle NC coast.
My wife and I use the Penn Pursuit 4000 spincast combo in backwater and off the pier.
I checked online, and they keep saying Ugly stick spinning rod ($50) paired with Daiwa B6 spinning reel. It is priced under $100. Then I saw another review saying the Ugly Stick GX 2 Combo around $50 for the rod & reel. Then there was another that said Zebco 33 combo which was the cheapest one. That is the spincast. The Ugly stick combo can be bought at walmart. It depends on light rod or medium or heavy. You would have to decide that. Also some of the rods are one piece or 2 piece. Just get online and look at all the reviews. If you are just starting out, I'd go with the combo because of the cheaper price.
I usually have better luck pairing my own rod and reel but you can't go wrong with a Quantum.
