Side cast reels? I know they are very expensive and hard to get your hands on. They are made in Australia. I also know that they're known for casting incredible distances - they win casting contests all the time. I've never even seen one, much less used one. You might get some info on youtube? Unless you can find someone on here that has some experience I would use caution. You would be entering a whole new world without much support.

So27 looks to have the bail less beat by a mile, same basic motion though.

I have owned Alvey reels for 40 or so years. They will in fact outcast anything on the market today. Alvey reels have hooked and landed super monster size fish. The Alvey reel is simple and flawless. There is nothing to break or wear out. Now understand that to get the full potential from your Alvey reel you need a rod that is equipped with and open runner guide. I made my own rods to use with this type of reel. Do some more research. Try to find someone close by that uses one. This would be your best bet.

Thank you so much for the info Guys!
I looked at the website and also searched eBay.
Lots of used reels to choose from.
When you say open runner guide do you mean bigger larger line guides?
On my surf pole, I removed the lower guide and get more distance casting.
Some of the reels on eBay are antiques, many are in good condition.

And open runner guide is a small open guide that you put your line in after you cast. It is much closer to the reel than a normal guide would be. It's purpose is to aid recovering line correctly.

I have one. Great for long casting from a beach or bank. I use it mostly fishing for carp or cats. Not good for boat or bass. Just my opinion.
