Hello ,
I enjoy tying flies. Most of the flies I tie are for saltwater species, bass, and panfish. I live in the great city of New Orleans. I’ve recently started tying flies. I have a fly rod but, it’s a 6w 9foot trout rod so, I don’t do a lot of fishing with it. But for some reason I keep cranking out flies. I don’t know why but I enjoy. Is that strange?
P.s. I do lots of normal fishing for gamefish.
That's not weird at all. I'll bet you that at least 95% of the flies that are tied are tied by people that don't fly fish. But. Why not tie some streamers and go for it with your 6wt? Or get a woolybugger pattern and tie that. Freshwater fish love em. Looks like a caterpillar or something similar to em.

Not strange at all. I tie flies during the Winter months when I can't fly fish. It's a great hobby that doesn't cast much once you have you have your equipment & components.
I'm in the same boat. When I started tying flies I would practice one to perfect it. You don't need 100 of one fly so I gave them to my fishing friends. Make a lot of new friends that way. Might even find some that swap for materials that you need.
I love to tie flies also. I have a box filled with full fly boxes, more than I can ever use. If you like to tie but don’t Fly Fish, how about donating to Project Healing Waters, Fly Fishing. The program is for disabled Veterans and uses fly fishing as a rehabilitation means. The program teaches Veterans to fly fish, tie their own flies and build their own rods. Some Veterans, due to disabilities, have a difficult time tying. They would welcome the donation. Go to their website, Project Healing Waters, and look for the program near you. There should be information on how to contact the local representatives.
Tight lines.

🤣 Same here, plus I also make all kinds of lures for fresh and salt water. I have so many there's no chance of ever using them in one lifetime. I believe it's called Compulsive Behavior Disorder. I can't for the life of me see the Disorder in it however! 😍 Cheers!
That vet program sounds like a good idea
I'll look into that.

If you want to contact Healing Waters contact me back. Our VFW helps sponsor and the regional director for Swest Virginia is a member of our VFW. Any thing helps, donations are greatly appreciated. I can put the two of you in contact with each other.
THANKS. DEEJAY
Actually, it might make you just a little strange. That isn't bad however, it is just part of your charm.

A great idea, thanks Jack.
Not strange at all. it is nice to replicate flies as well as make new ones. Great stress outlet as well.
No problem with that rod. I've taken king salmon on the same, with a 6lb tippet. You just have to get used to the give and take of big fish.
