Best Baitcasting reel for a teen?
Looking to reward my son (12) with a Baitcasting reel for his awesome report card. He’s been wanting one. He is a great fisherman and I’d like to get him one that is reasonably priced, but will last him for a while.
Thanks,
John
Take him to the store let him feel them in his hands.
I plan to take him over to Bass Pro. He actually knows more about fishing than me. I love going out with him. Just wondered if some Baitcaster reels might be easier to use than others.
Probably, I prefer spinning myself.
But no matter what is right for someone else, guarantees it will work well for him.
Just an opinion.
I vote for the tackle shop or Bass Pro. Let him find one that’s comfortable for him . In a given price range I don’t think there is a lot of variance. Certainly we all have our preferences. I like Abu Garcia in the 100 to 150 price range but I also have a Quantum at just under bucks that works well
I use a 50 year old spinner that was my father-in-law’s. Doesn't throw as far as my son’s, but I feel happy using it.
Forgot, Welcome to the forum JC.
Ty!
Guess I should have shared.

Happy fishing, all.
Glad you decided to register, there are a lot of intelligent anglers here of all species.
Took my son to Bass Pro and got him one of the cheaper bait caster reels. He’s thrilled to get out there and try it. :)

Glad to hear that.
Yep like the other’s say take him to the store and let him try the reels out and let him decide for himself and don’t let the sales guy tell your son that a right handed reel it best for a right handed fisherman. There was a time when all right handed fisherman were almost made to learn to fish with what ever reel was sold and even today you will still get sales guys trying to sell the same reel that there Grand dad or dad learned to use. I am right handed and I use what the fishing companies call a left handed reel where the handle is on the left side so they call it a left handed reel and that maybe but it my not feel that way to us all.
Being a lefty,
He did get the left handed
That is one good thing about being a lefty they can be comfortable with using both hands be it the left or the right hand not like us do it one way only right handed fishermen.
