I haven't ever fished "on line" or in any electronic manner, not sure I would like that at all. However, I keep hearing a lot about it, any suggestions?

I've never fished what ever is being called on line. I take it that's a video game of some sort. But I use my electronics on my boat at least 4 out of 7 days a week. I fish somewhere in Alabama year around. And I would just quit if I had to give up my electronics and go to an unknown place and just throw out and reel in 8 hrs a day.

And I read more replies. Half of you sound like a bunch of communists! So, a guy can’t speak his mind? Whining, at least I tell it like I see it! I’ve apologized to those I may have offended. Man up and listen to a different point of view. If you don’t like my opinion, then voice your own and let it be. I highly doubt if you met me in person you’d have the courage. FYI, I’m a person who says what I feel, I always put it out there, I am rarely serious about anything, and if stirring the pot gets some of you jackasses have a pulse then so be it! Relax, take a deep breath and enjoy other people’s point of view. Back to the topic... stop bitching and turn off your electronics for 5 fishing sessions. Not one of you have excepted my challenge. That explains more about you than calling me an idiot... which I am on a regular basis. I don’t like drop shotting, I prefer Ned rigs. Shoot me! 🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

If I had to use just my knowledge to catch fish I would probably starve before I figured out a good way to do it. The simplest things that we take for granted are all advances of technology that I could not accomplish without someone else's technology to guide me. I could carve the bone hook, as someone had mentioned but not without a good knife or a file. I doubt I could ever figure out a way to make 50# braided line that was anything other than some vines braided together. Even a glass bottom boat would be out of the question without combining the knowledge of many people over many years.
I personally feel that it is amazing how far we have come over the years. I remember a calculator costing over $100 in the 70s and the complicated problems still had to be done "longhand" and somehow we were able to put a man on the moon years earlier. All this done with a computer with far less technology than today's $20 smartphone.
Not using the information discovered from older generations is not cheating IMO. If I could not use these tools for a competition I am sure I would use every thing that I could. I would trust maps that I did not survey and I would check reports to see where people were catching fish.
Is asking the guy at the bait shop the typical questions cheating? Hey, what's biting? What are they hitting on? Where's the cold beer?
I do agree I would like to send 20 pro fishermen on a blind tournament. Let em each choose 2 rods and a boat and 10# of tackle. Then load them on a plane and drop them off at an undisclosed location their equipment would be onsite waiting and they would have to figure out how to make it work for the location they are take to. With the gear they have chosen and their skills.
Sounds like a great reality TV show and probably hilarious.
Otherwise I dont see any reason to strip a man of his tools
I currently moving across the country. If I take a trip out on someone not I hope they have the best equipment aboard. If I spend $1500 - $2500 on private charter for a gulf stream trip and I'm on his boat for 13 - 36 hours I do expect him to use somewhat current electronics to cheat my way to where the fish are. If I get on the bot and he tells me we are going to set the compass to the east and we will stop and fish when we see the color of the water change I am going to blow a gasket, I am sure you would do the same.
Tight lines
Dave

Well it's not arguing or making that big of a fuss over. But the guy posting the pictures with all the nice catches is awesome. Good job man. But he ain't doing that on Lewis Smith lake in Alabama. Lol

Another great advance in technology is stocking fish. So as much as we like to think that it is "man" against mother nature we may have to thank the fine men of the fish and forestry services before we pat ourselves on the back proclaiming how great we are.
"Largemouth bass are one of the top recreational fish species in the United States. As a result, they have been stocked throughout the U.S. to provide recreational fishing opportunities"

Dang straight! Cheaters and fakes for using technology that's readily available for ALL anglers. Such a shame folks spending their money to "gain the upper hand" or to map a lake or to see where the big girls is or to find bait fish. I'm a newbie here and not trying to stir the pot. I dont have a dog in the fight. I use public transportation to get me close to where I bank fish
Bassface - next time you hook up to your rig and the adrenaline is flowing from the anticipation of going to the new body of water you've never been to, TURN THE GPS OFf,ON YOUR I PHONE 11, or your Garmin that's attached to your windshield and whip into the nearest 7/11 and grab a Rand McNally map and a flash light. Who needs a gps to take you turn by turn before daylight to that foreign boat ramp. You'll have a perfectly good map and flashlight to use. Just pull over and spin the map until you're oriented. We sure wouldnt want to make it convenient to get to the new ramp to put in!

Whatever happened to fishing that wasn't competitive? When a day without catching anything was as important as a time with bountiful reward. A time when the pleasure of fishing wasn't measured by amount or technology, but by the pleasure of the moment and trying to outwit the prey with your own ingenuity. Great moments my fishing life have ore often than not been observed in solitude. The best delight has come from creating lures from my own imagination and having them fool the fish. My idea of fun fishing is far away from boats that go 100MPH to get from one spot to another as quickly as possible, electronic fish finding that pretty
much takes the delight of surprise away, horsing the catch in, weighing it in, dropping it in a live well and speeding it to a weigh-in kind of like scoring points in an NBA game of today. When I fish I don't want to compete, I want to get away from it.

Ok I can agree with bassface up to a certain point. Now a days anyone that can afford to buy the hi=tech electronics and take the time to learn them can go most any where and find and catch fish with little actually fishing knowledge. But my biggest problem with all this new hi-tech stuff is this is not the stopping point. One day it will be just like looking at you tv screen and actually seeing not only fish but the type and size as well. And most likely give advice on how to catch them.
