By the way Smokey, I am really admiring your fly box. It's a memory lane all by its lonesome.

I was fishing the Big Hole for "whitefish" one February. Lincoln's birthday I think. Trout fishing was closed only whitefish could be caught. I was using a #4 Spruce Fly pattern like your pic, underneath the bank ice. Managed to catch a 4# brown " whitefish" on it. Great streamer fly.

Out in this neck of the woods the fly is a Platte River Special. There are several versions, with or without a bit of red.

Heinrich Schnibble is one of my favorites. I like his phrase of spitzen sparkens. Makes me laugh.

I do agree that laughter is the lubricant that helps life slide by in a tolerable manner. Fortunately, I am a human and we are the silliest, funniest and dumbest sometimes creatures in God's inventory. I do my share in that.

That's proof God does have a sense of humor.

Ditto, here ! If any of you folks saw that movie 'Lawless' about the infamous Bondurant brothers in Franklin County, Va., then you know their reputation was worldwide as the most prolific moonshiners of their time ! When I lived in Roanoke ('08/'09), I used to drive right through the heart of their territory (Boone's Mill) on my way to my fishing partner's house, just south of there in Rocky
Mount ! Never did get to try any, more's the pity; to my understanding, it was still a local mecca for 'shine' !
