Trot line rubber

Greetings, as a kid in Texas I used to buy rubber band by the foot. We used it for trot line fishing from the bank. You tied a weight on the rubber and the line on the other end, threw the weight out into the water. Staked the line to the bank and baited the line. Let it out and later pulled it in with the fish. Has anyone seen any of this rubber anywhere? I cannot seem to locate any. The guys I asked said they have never heard of it.

We used to cut strips from old inner tubes. You might check model shops. They still make wind up airplanes.

Go to a tire dealer, ask for a used tube, cut it to size you need, scissors work best. DEEJAY.

Thanks for the info. The bands I used to use were about 3/8 to 1/2 inch wide and I would guess about 1/8 inch thick. They were really spongy like regular rubber bands. I will try one of the inner tube bands the next time I go out.

Years ago inner tubes were real rubber. Mostly red rubber. They are now made of synthetic & don't have the stretch properties of the real thing.

I have found some huge rubber bands at office supply stores. Today's rubber bands deteriorate quickly so use new ones. I found rubber band lines at an old K-Mart years ago. The rubber bands lasted one or two trips to the lake. It is the easiest and best way to bank fish with multiple hooks. The main thing is to be able to throw your anchor as far as possible from the bank and into deeper water. Tie the weight to one end of the rubber bands and the line you have hung on to, to the other. You just pull in the line and attach multiple hooks (and also replenish the bait) trot line style. a bigger fish will wiggle the line.

I think this is the most underutilized way of fishing I have seen and found.

try bungee cord, available at West Marine, various diameters, we use this for snooze lines while crabbing.
