If they run in the Maumee river check out Maumee Tackles web site. And if they run in the Sandusky river, there’s a tackle shop in Fremont, sportsman’s supply or something like that don’t recall the name, the owner has a Facebook page. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up Hookback. I’m in central Ohio though. Fishing in the Clear Fork, Mohican, and Walhounding rivers.

We tried two day time and and one night for sauger and saugeye or walleye below one of the dams this past week on the Ohio river with no luck I believe the water temperature is still a little to warm but it’s going to cool down more than they will start biting

Me too!

Try as I might, I cannot hook up with a saugeye. Been trying for years.
Good luck.
I'll be watching responses too.

I believe those might be walleye, not saugeye.

River Walleyes and Saugers: Fishing the Fall Bite🎣🐠🐠

Targeting dams

One of the most popular spots to fish on a river is below a dam. A dam is usually the furthest the fish can go upstream. Below most dams is a washout hole that some fish will spend the fall and winter in.

A few other baits that really work well vertical jigging are blade baits like Silver Buddy’s, Heddon Sonars, Big Dudes, Cicadas, and Zips. Sometimes the vibration of the blade bait will catch fish when they won’t hit a jig and minnow. Jigging Spoons and Jigging Rapalas or Shiver Minnows are also deadly river baits. Tip these baits with live bait, use two minnows on the same hook hooked top of head to top of head... This makes the minnows appear to be fighting for food... You have to use 40 lb Braid fishing line and vertically bounce the lure on the bottom raising it about 18” and back to the bottom...

The most productive times to fish for these fish in the Ohio River are during late fall, winter, and early spring using a variety of simple techniques. The most popular method of taking walleye and sauger is by fishing 1/8- to 3/8-ounce jigs tipped with white or chartreuse twister tails near the bottom. Adding a minnow to this rig, or to a plain jig, is a real advantage when fishing is slow. Jigging spoons and vibrating blade lures are also effective at getting down to the fish which typically hug the bottom. Sauger move into shallow water at sunset and can be taken with small crank baits throughout the night until the sun rises the next morning. Fishing can be excellent during the day if there is heavy cloud cover.

Gm....and wow! I don’t see many who talk about saugeye on this forum...I’m currently in a 5 week statewide Saugeye tournament... lots of premium fish being caught (20-28”) plus many smaller...
Water Conditions and locations are causing us to use a variety of baits right now. I, among others are saugeye fanatics! Lol. Did not want to bore you or other forum readers with too much detail. If you are interested in baits and colors I’ll be glad to share some info..
Good of luck...and tight lines.

I have tried for years to catch one.
I know they are bottom sitters. That's about it.
I have trouble getting a lure to troll just a foot or so above the bottom.
When I see what may be a fish on the bottom on my FF, I spot anchor and dangle a line. Nothing.
I've tried lures, lures with worm, worm, cut bait, minnows, minnows on a lure.

I'm in North Central Ohio, and I wonder when/where ODNR stocks them and when a class ages to catchable size.
I'm suspecting the lakes where I fish may be fished out and not replenished, or never stocked in the first place.
