N00b question, are you supposed to just let your rig hit the bottom and wait?
Or do you keep casting over and over and dragging the thing along the bottom?
When do you use a bobber?
There is a secret spot near me and it’s 5 metres above water and the first couple metres are rocks and seaweed on the floor.
Want to use corn as bait.

Probably depends on what you're fishing for. I thing with jigs you're supposed to let it hit the bottom then occasionally make the bait bounce up and drop back down. From what I've seen most of the time fish will hit the bait as it's falling.
For bobber I only really use them when I'm fishing for panfish/bait fish. Although I've done it when I was catfishing and the bottom of the body of water had a ton of weeds. If you're new I'd say get some worms and a bobber and toss it out. You'll start getting pan fish in no time.

Thanks. So let the sinker hit the bottom and a jig every minute.
How does it not get snagged every time along the ocean floor when you reel it back?

Unless you use a weedless rig then getting snagged is an inevitability. Basically just sliding the tip of the hook into the soft plastic trailer. That'll help but snags will still occasionally happen.

Thanks. I’ll google a seedless rig.
What’s soft plastic trailer?

I probably worded that wrong. Just like a trailer bait is always what we called them. Google 'Jig trailer' there's a million options. You can throw all kinds of stuff on there. It'll just make your overall bait bigger and maybe move more like a fish I guess? I normally throw on small swim baits to my jigs. Seems to work best for me.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP4RmY1AWIS6lRHI3e2iB2Tu5J5njfWx0Here is a beginner video series that will help you get started on your bass fishing journey from HatCamBass. It's one of the best on the internet.
Extra Notes
A) There are no such things as Secret Spots, if you found it, and its public, its guaranteed being fished. Get that idea out of your head early.
B) An over generalisation: if your lead lure has a weight of an 1/8 Oz or more and is circular, it's probably meant to be on the bottom.
I'd you're using a bobber/float, then the purpose of using the float would be to keep your bait/lure off the bottom.

Yeah you right, I’ve seen evidence of fishermen there. But this place is far, far, far less known. But it’s not a total secret.
Thanks with answer B), it explained a lot.
So the distance between your hook and your float is relative to how deep the water is?

by stephfowler
Yes, but I would recommend watching the video I added to the post as a guide to help you target bass.
If you don't care what you catch, live bait is awesome, but if you want bass, you should target bass

Thanks. About to watch the video. Love the idea of corn 🌽

depends on the rig and your target species, the weather, the time of day and a host of other factors
it pays to experiment
but if you just want a quick answer, let it sink and twitch it occasionally

In Maine not only are there Secret Spots but Secret Lakes, rule of thumb. If a lake has a Boat Ramp, Fish another lake that doesn't
Usually you should bounce the lure along the bottom, but is also depends what lure you are using. More often than not bass will hit a lure as it falls toward the bottom. Bobbers are Ok for dock or anchor fishing especially for small fish closer to shore. Fish tend to attack food that is falling or moving erratically. A good rule for bait is to feed the fish, not fool them so use live bait if it is available.
