What type rod (medium light, medium) reel(spinning or bait casting) and rod length(mainly fishing from the bank). What is best for crappie fishing?

An inexpensive shimano spinning reel and a 8’ ultralight rod. Think shimano Sedona/fenwick eagle. Very nice combo for panfish.
