Hi,
I hope some of you will be kind enough to share. I am currently in Myrtle Beach SC and I'm planning to do some Surf fishing. It's been over 30 years since my poles have seen salt water.
Please reccomend anything you want. What rod, reel, line, baits and jigs. I know fishing isnt great here but some general tips would surely make my life easier.
Thanks, Dave

I've never surf fished in Myrtle Beach, but I have in California. And I have from NAS Patuxent River on the Chesapeake Bay. Used to fish for blues. Get you at least a 8ft medium rod and at least a 3500 size reel loaded with 20 pound braid (I prefer power pro). We used to use squid or smelt, but when those rascals are feeding they can get into a frenzy like sharks and they don't care what you throw out there, they're gonna bite it. I surf fish now for surf perch and whatever else might be out there (halibut, corbina, striper) and I use a 12ft light surf rod and a reel similar to the one I already mentioned. I've done pretty well with the Lucky Craft surf lures ( which would probably be a great lure for you too), plastic grubs, and power bait sand crabs and sand worms. I've found power bait to be just about as effective as the real thing. And it works out to be a lot cheaper unless you're harvesting your own.

Have fished in the outer Banks every year for many years...very similar surf to Myrtle beach. Was fairly unsuccessful for the first two years.Watched some videos on how to read the surf which improved my catches considerably! Found that a majority of the fish were approximately 20 yards in front of me..not over by Africa! Used 7 1/2 ft. ugly stick combos from Walmart at 30 dollars each with 12# test..Used hand tied tandem rigs with jig heads and 3 inch gulp baits...just a standard one hook Carolina rig with fresh shrimp...1/2 oz casting jigs ...mostly caught blues..whiting...flounder and pompano and speckled trout!!!Go to your local tackle/bait shop and ask what's biting and on what..they should be very helpful

Thanks guys,
I remember filling the boat with Blues when I was fishing in South Jersey but I haven't seen any down here yet.
Most people seem to be using shrimp. I have seen a few people in the surf with casting nets. Pulling in quite a few at a time. So I doubt I will be able to do much with them. Gulp has improved quite a bit from when I 1st saw it. Bass pro and even Walmart have plenty on the shelves. I can grab some to give it a shot if I cant do anything with the shrimp.
Reading the surf is a new concept too. I will have to look I to that this evening.

Well I need to get my chores done and finish up a project so I can get out to the water.
This site and the people in it are amazing. I have tried other site and none of them showed much activity I am glad I didnt give up and somehow I found this site.
Hopefully I can share a success story now to prove that you guys know what is needed to get the job done.
