Salt water.

Using a Carolina rig with a 1oz egg sinker with 6 lb. monofilament line. Shore casting and I've tried reducing drag before casting and not casting super hard, but I'm still consistently snapping my line, not at the knot, lower down on the line. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

Are you snapping it off behind or in front or yourself?

I.e. back cast or forward cast.

It's usually snapping behind me.

Wellll 1oz isn’t a small rig for 6lbs test.

Also, is it old or new line?

Its new Trilene Extra Smooth line. So I should probably get some heavier line?

Ehh, I mean I would if you’re not needing the super thin line I would.

Honestly I’ve never tried casting one ounce on 6lbs, but I would imagine if you’re smooth and don’t jerk it you can.

But if you’re saying it’s breaking a whole lot, then you ought to just use heavier line...

What are you fishing for in salt with 6 lbs?

I'm catching croaker and redfish with the line. Again I bought the 6lb because I thought that's the heaviest I could put on my reel :/

1 ounce is too heavy for 6 pound test mono. Use 12 pound mono or more for an ounce of weight, I’d recommend 17-20.

FYI braid is a lot more difficult to deal with. Braid is easily cut on rocks and sharp objects while fishing. Braid easily knots and its nearly impossible to correct a birds nest when casting. Braid also casts differently. I'm not saying don't do it but if you are little green you might find braid frustrating to use initially.

There may be a small cut in the top eye on your rod. Check it out because if the line gets in that crease it will snap at the rod tip every time.

Agreed with others. 6lb is ultralight and you can’t use weights in saltwater with that line.
