Bought a boat on a whim to take up fishing
Bought a boat on a whim to take up fishing so I could get away from strip malls, traffic, and subdivisions...also to save mental sanity. Learning curve has been steep. This is my first redfish from the boat...made the entire purchase worth it.

The learning curve usually hits you pretty hard, but the knowledge you gain over time is priceless. Congratulations on your catch, I’m sure you’ll have plenty more.

I bought my first lake boat 3 years ago and im still learning how to find and catch fish.
Its just so overwhelming at first when you have the entire lake to choose a spot. And theres over 250 sqaure miles of water on my home lake to decide so its not easy by any means.
When we only had shore fishing we would hit a few spots and that was it. You either caught fish or got skunked.
But when i decided to buy a boat all i could think was how many fish i was going to catch because now i could go anywhere i wanted. Well that just wasnt the case at all. Very humbling experience but im learning new things all the time out there.

It is definitely a lot! I'm still learning so much about tides ( I have gotten stuck in a low tide already), winds and how they relate to chop, and what baits to use. Also trying to learn to catch my own bait with a cast net...I'm sure that will be a whole new post once I get it.

Cast netting and using live pinfish and croakers are some of the best baits I've ever used for inshore fishing.
Make sure you're not using too big of a net at first, smaller is better when you're learning.
Good luck to ya man, there's plenty more reds and specks out there for you to catch

Ha yeah I catch more on shore, pisses me off. Catch bigger ones offshore tho.

It takes a lot of learning the tides, fish movement, etc... My family has a house on an island in florida, and we hired a guide to take us out for redfish. He took us from spot to spot and we caught huge reds all day with no effort. All the spots we fished were within sight of the house, so the next day we took our boat to the same spots, used the same bait, at the same times of day and got completely skunked. It made me really respect the fact that the guide had been doing this his whole life and knew so much more than just what baits to use and where to go; he knew where the fish would be that day specifically. It’s an art.

I only fish a landlocked lake so never have to deal with tides but i understand what you mean.

Buy a fish finder.

My dad always told me growing up "90% of bass are in 10% of the water." I think there's truth to that... finding where they are takes a lot of research, practice, and trial and error.

Yep it will all be there when you get back from therapy, no matter what it is.
