Some people swear by just spritzing it, others swear by placing the reel in warm/hot water for five minutes, and some say to soak it overnight. Is there really a "hard and fast rule" when it comes to line memory?
EDIT for clarity: I typically soak the spool right after replacing the line for a few minutes, but Is there a "hard and fast rule" on the length of time?

For me it's just avoiding mono. I'll maybe use some on a leader but other than that I haven't had that issue with fluoro or braid. I don't think that answers your question but that's how I approach it.

Honestly, if it's gotten that bad I would just replace the line.

OP's line sounds like garbage that comes pre-spooled on wal-mart combos. Never ever had an issue with quality mono.

Edited the post for clarity.
I'm using Stren 6lb mono test and have never had issues. I just replaced it last night only because it's been on for the last year, not because it was tangled or anything. Typically, I put the reel spool in warm water for a few minutes after spooling. It works for me, but I was just curious to see what peoples thoughts were on different methods/lengths of time.

Treat the line with line conditioner when it goes on.

Thanks! I've never tried line conditioner before. Might give that a shot and see how it works. :)

I just spray some on a cloth and run the line through the cloth as it goes on. Helps a lot with a spool of flouro.

I took yall’s advice and ordered a spool of Sufix 832 Braid Hi Vis Yellow 08lb 150yd . Should I spray it with line conditioner while putting it on my reels?
My two cents worth! I take my rod and reels out in my yard every couple months hook my swivel to the fire hydrant or something heavy let out all the line pull it tight and hold it there for two minutes pulls out the memory Wala and Fishon Fishon!!!!

I had no idea it needed to be stretched. That’s probably why I have always had problems with it. Thanks for the two cents. Here’s a nickel. Keep the change...
Hey Hacksaw, let me know how that Sufix works for you. Replaced my 3 Penns with Fireline and it was much improved.

I sure will PB. I think I’ve used fireline on my saltwater reels. I bought the Sufix for my Crappie reels. Hopefully it’ll work out. 🇺🇸🇨🇱
Pull your line thru a piece of leather see what you think.

Thanks Dennis. I’ll try that and let you know how it went. Is that something you do?
