You don't have to remove them; just disconnect the cables to the battery posts. You don't remove your everyday vehicle's battery when it's cold out, do you? Battery electrolyte won't freeze in a fully charged battery until almost -90F.

Between cars, boat, 'n ZTR for the lawn, I invested in 6 Trickle chargers @ $35 ah pop at Harbor Freight 7 years ago and haven't looked back or needed a new battery sense. one trickle charger failed mid winter the 2nd year and H.F. replaced it no charge.. And Yes I invested in 6 red + Black sets of battery ends an a bit of 16 gage wire too, But with the cost of battery's today, and all 6 fit on my 8'wood work bench each hooked to it's own wall outlet.

I have trickle chargers too from Harbor Freight.

So which would be the preferred method, if there is one?

Do I disconnect both batteries from the boat and leave it in there in a garage, or remove the batteries and trickle charge it all Winter?

Sorry to beat a dead horse here with this....

Here in PA, I guess inside the garage would be above freezing. Maybe 40 to 50 degrees the coldest.

Thanks

You betcha. You donโ€™t want any acid messing up your boat/equipment. Mine are on my workbench. Hack ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

I'm not rich in fact anything but. I give my old batteries to my son for his building
business and put two new ones in the boat every spring. I don't want to have a
dead battery while I'm 10 or 15 miles away from the dock.

I have 4 batteries in my larger boat & 3 in my smaller. We have no closed fishing seasons here & winter is a great time for catfish & crappie. I have on board chargers in both boats & never take out the batteries. I will bundle up & fish many times during our winter months dec, jan, Feb. Sometimes March gets pretty chilly but our lakes never freeze. March is a great month for largemouth. This coming winter will probably be dead for me as my knee replacement surgery date is fast approaching. I know it's going to hurt at first but it'll feel good when is does quit hurting.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I'm not positive but I believe
I'm right behind you with that.
