Rent or buy 🤔

So, I typically go bass fishing twice a month, year round. I’d love to have my own bass boat. But, I don’t really have space for one at my full time residence and it costs anywhere from $500-$1,200 a year to dry store it. Now, some of the So Cal lakes have some pretty decent rental boats while others have junk boats. The cost to rent is from $60- $120 a day. If you do the math, what I pay to rent boats, would be the cost of dry storage on my favorite lake. I will definitely be getting a bass boat... just don’t know when 🤷🏼‍♂️🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

Surely you remember the old definition of the word BOAT: A hole in the water into which you pour money.

That’s the other consideration... other than having to pay for dry storage, there’s always maintenance Issues $$$! I rented a boat at Diamond Valley Lake a couple of weeks ago and the starter fuse went out so the boat wouldn’t start and I was stuck on the far side of the lake. I contacted the marina and soon after got a tow back to the docks. If I owned the boat I would have been charged for the tow upwards of $100-$200! 🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

Storage is harder on equipment than using it.

The old saying
Use it or lose it.

Mice are the worst enemy in storage.

Your right about the 50 cent fuse and the $$

And shop hours for repair.

All that said, it sure is nice when I go on my annual fishing trip to Tennessee that my buddy has a nice nice boat to fish from. I think it’s an older Skeeter... He lives smack dab in the middle of the state so Normandy lake, Timms Ford, Center Hill, and Chic are all less than 2hrs away. Just hook up the boat and go! 🏄🏼‍♂️🎣

The most economical way is to join a local bass fishing club... You will be able to fish as much as you want and not have to absorb any of the costs of ownership of a boat.. Plus you will learn unlimited knowledge by fishing with other fishermen who have the same passion... Fishing two times a month in my opinion doesn’t justify for ownership of a fishing boat... The cost of ownership doesn’t gain anything.. Unless you enjoy have your own boat and the additional cost isn’t a issue... Good luck with your choice...

4 Main reasons why my 2 boats now have new owners and I have more time to fish in a kayak. Definitely not for everyone. Waters and wants will justify what one needs.
