I’ve always just used my dads gear when fishing. I got this penn battle II 1000 and 5’0’’ ugly stick gx2 it’s really fun to fish with. I just got this diawa bg 2500 and another gx2 6’6’’ medium today. Even though these rods are cheap and the reels are in the $100 price range, I’m pretty stoked on the beginning stages of my own quiver.

The GX2's are honestly great rods. Treat them with respect and they will last more than long enough to get your money's worth out of them. The eyelets are sort of flimsy and easily bend and even break, but if you're careful you won't have issues. The rod blanks are almost indestructible though. I've never used the reels but I know the Daiwa BG is a great reel. I use a GX2 medium with a Pfleuger President and it's lasted me a year with no issues. Good stuff here you'll get a lot of use out of them I'm sure.

These are both solid reels. I have the old Penn spinfishers for salt water. The clash series are nice and lighter than the spin fishers. Can’t go wrong with Daiwa either 👍🏼

Ya at least a hour for freshwater. 5 minutes from the beach though, I’ve been fishing for perch and striper just to get my fix.

I have only Fished the Delta a couple times.....Fly Fushing for Strioers and conventional Fishing for Black Bass. I wish I was a little closer cause it's a hoot to fish there.

The BG's are amazing reels for the money, their weight is really the only thing to complain about with them.

Ya it seems big for a 2500. The knob is huge too.
