Matching pole to reel

Hey guys, told you I’d be back. While going thru some gear I’ve accumulated I’ve come across a few odds and ends. I have a saltwater spinning pole rated for up to 20 pound test and a spinning reel rated for up to 12 pound test. What problems would I create if I loaded the reel with 20 pound floro and matched it with the pole.

Not cast well and possibly break rod. A 12# pound rated reel will not hold much 20# line. I prefer 16# max mono for long distance casting reasons and 12# for most applications. It will work of course just keep drag not so tight so rod does not break.

It’s all based on reel capacity , if you load 100+ yards of 15 -20 braid or mono your good to go ! Braid being much thinner probably get at least a 1/3 more on spool !
Since rod is a heavier weight class , so
many line class variations occur in rods I wouldn’t worry ! Nothing is gonna break if drag is properly set .

Thanks for the input. How do I set the drag properly?

That`s a good youtube search. So many ways, quick check hook up to something solid and step back, check behind you for safety reasons and test drag. Put some real pressure on rod and make sure drag slips right there! Adjust drag to max pressure you think the rod can handle! Tight lines
