You mentioned in an earlier post that you were in South Phoenix; were you fishing the Western Canal between Fremont and Baseline ? I've been considering trying the canals as I've seen some fair-sized bass and catfish photos on the F&G site, not to mention some of those huge grass carp ! Incidentally, since those carp eat mainly vegetation, what would someone use for bait ?

I was exactly fishing the canals in Buckeye Az and was fishing with nightcrawlers and fresh blue gill.

On hot summer days ,I always carry a box of 'Wheaties' on the boat
If the bass aint cooperating I just grab a handfull of 'Wheaties',wet it and work it till it is ready to stay on a treble hook and I fish for carp
there are many specially made carp baits,but I have had good luck with 'Wheaties'
