Looking for advice on a solid heavier duty setup.

I've always been a pretty casual fisherman, usually been partial to affordable ugly stiks and basic upgrades to line that fit and it's always worked for where I fish. However this month I'm heading up state (Michigan) to Drummond Island for a fishing trip on and around on the island via boat. So wondering if anyone could help with getting a heavier duty rod/reel setup picked out for me. Not sure I'll even end up catching something worthy, but I'm very optimistic when it comes to fishing.

I recommend going to an Outfitter and choose from whatever MH, with whatever action that suits your bait and lures, that feels great in hand. Doing a walk around you'll quickly know what 1-few rods you like, it'll just vibe with you.

I would personally go with a spinning rod, never know when you just may want to tie on a little bug and catch some panfish. (At least in my thinking)

Mount whatever properly weighted and spec'd Shimano reel that fits your budget. Don't be afraid of the $30 price tag on the Sienna line either, they do the job. If you can hit on around the $100 mark though, you will feel a difference.

I like hi-vis braid and a leader of appropriate for scenario leader. I use a longer (often lighter) leader for treble baits for shock absorption (or did back when I used them, I'm all single hook now)

What's your opinion on braids vs fluorocarbon lines? I've heard varying opinion when running a spinning setup.

My opinion on Fleurocarbon is not good. I just don't like it to begin with, I've tried all the "best" and imho its not worth the $. Even it it were cheap I personally wouldnt use it as a mainline.

I like hi-vis braid because it handles great on a spinning reel and I can see it. Ive tried from 5lb microlines up to 65 lb class. I always go back to an 8 strand 10lb class. It just works for me and I get decent casting distance.

My go-to for leaders is green copolymer. I like the Bass Pro Tourney Tough myself. Even when its not on sale I can get MANY leaders in 2 weights for $10.
