Fall fishing

I live in southeastern Idaho and am a very beginner fly fisherman. I used an online angler report during the summer and was slayin em! Its getting pretty cold and I recently went out using the same angler report page and I couldn’t get a single one. I was using a hopper and the fish seemed active and feeding just not on anything I threw at them. What are some fall go to trout flies for you guys? What tips do you guys have for locating what trout are feeding on?

I’d look for a spring fed river that stays the same temperature throughout winter.

Just fish the same spots you fish in summer. Aslong as the river doesnt freeze solid the fish will be fine. When the water gets cold they tend to lay in deeper pools throw beefy streamers at them or go smaller than you normally would my local water is usually size 16-18 nymphs. In winter we go down to 24s. Some go smaller I just cant tie that damn small lol.
If there's some top water action try trailing a really small zebra midge or nymph behind the dry it will sit right under the surface and you could get some strikes.

Think about this. How many grasshoppers were around when you fished. Probably not many if any. Try using nymphs which would be available to the fish or as someone mentioned streamers. Think like a fish.
