Hi,
I’m new to So Carolina and I heard of a great largemouth spot 2 hrs away from me and it is a large lake. I would hate to fish it with out any hints from someone who can give me some good suggestions. Lake Moultrie is the lake and I would appreciate any informational help I could get .
Thanks ,
Ron S.

You may check the internet for information. Also it may be worth the money if there are guides there that you can book a trip with. I've found that the first time fishing on a lake, the guides will show you around and divulge a lot of information for your future fishing trips on the lake. Good luck.

Well Ron, getting a guide would be the best and the most expensive way to learn a lake. I think I would start with the local bait shop, spend some time at the landing talking to the locals, making note where the boats are coming from AND if they are catching. You might even drive around the lake, if you can, to see what you can see. Sometimes they will publish a map that will give you some idea where to try. Good Luck!

Just now saw your post. A good spot to fish is around the old fish hatchery, just to the NW a bit from the dam. it’s still on maps. Inside the the hatchery area are lots of stumps and a variety of terrain. Outside is an old dike the surrounded the impoundment. Work the cypress trees early and late. Another good place that is often overlooked is the riprap around the dam. The rocks go to deep water, so if you fish say a drop shot rig around there it’ll be productive. I always liked a deep running crank bait around those rocks; but fished plastic worms there too. Don’t miss The WadBoo Creek downstream of the dam; good bass and catfish, plus beautiful creek. across the lake from the old hatchery is the “flats”, great cypress tree fishing now that it’s getting cooler, but because it’s shallow the west winds can stack up in there in a hurry and be whitecapping as a surprise. So keep a weather eye out. Moultrie is one of my all time favorite lakes to fish; almost can’t miss. In winter, find the shad on your sounder, and you’ll find the bass. Work the deep channels then; half ounce silver spoon jigged up and down near the bottom is a wintertime winner. Best of luck to you.

I just checked in and saw your reply to my inquiry. That was very helpful and thoughtful of you to share your experience on the lake. I will give it a try and hopefully this will be My favorite lake also. I realize I have a lot to learn. Thank you again for your help and time.

You’re most welcome. Most of whats in my bag-o-tricks was learned through the help of someone else who willing to share....so....the least i could do is to pass it along. Let me know sometime how you do. Dont miss the Wadboo Creek. At least look at it on Google Maps Satellite view. Again, best of luck.
