I am very new to salmon fishing and don't know what kind of bait to use. I am working off a bridge and haven't much luck. I don't know what kind of bait is best and I am mostly fishing in early am. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tks

Welcome to the Forum, ahole. Tell me more about this bridge, is it just a spillway or is it a big bridge with pilings.
It's a small vehicle and covered passenger bridge in seattle on the duwamish river
Probably your best choice would besalmon egg clusters below a bobber, so you wont snag up, also sand shrimp, what's your plan if you hook a 45 lb King from a bridge....Also Salmon stop eating when they enter fresh water.so spinners, green jig flies and lures might work better, it's an agression/ territorial attack, I've caught 100s of Salmon on flies that don't look like anything you would see in a river, go figure... just try different stuff and watch the people that are catching fish....
Thanks windknots for the info. I just got a new friend
Windknots again, I would recommend dumping the bridge, find another approach, if you hook a15 lb Coho you'll never hoist it up from a bridge, that being said use # 4 spinners in Chartreuse green, or copper, fluorescent red/ orange, cast perpendicular to the current and reel in just enough to keep your spinner going, which you can feel, be sure your drag is set light enough that fish can run, because they will, Coho are Salmon acrobats, I hook 6 to 10 everyday, I'm fishing at the peak, which is now, I've had fish jump 10 times, they're manics. Most important, just have fun it will happen, and you'll never forget it
Windknots has good advice, take it...and for God's sake, don't fish for coho from a bridge....of ANY kind or height.... they most likely will never calm enough for the "hoist" necessary.... unless you have a really long-handled net like the Indians used to use at Celilo Falls !
Using a bobber, drift with a malibu jig or eggs or shrimp. It is what they do on the Cowlitz about 100 mile south of you.
