So, today I told my wife that I was going fishing for tonight’s dinner. I always catch fish, and usually my limit which is 5 trout at the spot I was going. I had already caught two trout when I saw a river otter swimming directly for me. The guy two my left saw it also and told me to keep an eye on my fish. A bit later I noticed he was up at his truck, and I asked how he did, he looked down at me just in time to see the otter making away with my stringer. I reacted, and it was only able to get one of my fish... the biggest. I ended up catching a total of 4 trout; however it is known that otters target your largest fish... so, that damn otter got my 10 pound rainbow. I have proof of the eye witness that saw the otter... maybe it was 15 pounds...

Yep, fed them all summer. Can’t find even 1 fish. Bass were getting fat as footballs, pumpkinseed were even getting good size.

I have had cotton mouth snakes come up and sit with me at night, those suckers come to the lantern, they have a couple times try to take the stinger or if I had a baggie of shad with me (previously frozen) they would attempt to take them. One morning caught a fish that required the fish basket and dang if there was a snake in it that could not get back out. To say the least I lost all the fish in the basket that trip. That sux to lose all the meals that would produce.

An otter will eat 6 fish a day and kill some for shi!s & jiggles. So, what can you do about it?

So I’m fishing in my kayak on a small lake in GA. I’ve got a nice bass and a filet-able bluegill on my stringer and still plenty of daylight for more fishing. I made a perfect cast, to the perfect spot under an overhanging tree, and was perfectly working the fly when the fish on my stringer started making a raucous. I reeled in my line and mumbled gruffly as I made a second perfect cast to the perfect spot. Now, the stringer fish REALLY started splashing and causing all kinds of noise. I put my rod between my knees and gave a good yank on the stringer to shut them up. To my surprise,.... It yanked back. I yanked again to pull in the stringer and a HUGE CATFISH (I think) was still holding on to my bluegill. I mean seriously, like the movie Jaws,,.... “I needed a bigger boat”. Literally this fish was at least as long as my thigh. It finally let go and angrily flapped its tail at me as it dove into the murky depths beneath my kayak. My bluegill died from the stress and had a huge mouth (teeth) marks on it. Had no idea catfish would do this.

Reeled in my line and paddled into shore. Today,... my catfish story is growing in size. It was at least as long as my kayak and almost tipped me over when I yanked on the stringer. PS,...I don’t go swimming in the lake anymore.

When I was a child, we were at a pond in colorrado and as might fell, we had a decent bass and a small catfish on the stinger and a major thunder storm came in, we went and sat in the pickup while the storm lasted most of the night, after it was gone we went down to the fishing poles (which we anchored down) to our surprise we didn't have any fish on, but upon further inspection of the stringer the catfish had a very large bass attached to it. That bass had came into the cattails near the edge of the water and started to swallow the catfish. It got most of the catfish swallowed but could not spit it out because the cat fish's dorsal fins had came straight out and the bass was in a terrible situation
He could not swallow nor spit out the catfish. Ultimately we cleaned the bass and the catfish, so it was not necessarily a bad thing.
