I feel like fishing puts you in a vulnerable position to get robbed or attacked. Usually you're alone and in some austere area where help is difficult to find. And at odd hours of the day and or night. And also you got sketchy af people lingering around these areas too.
How to stay safe while fishing?

I think if you're worried about being attacked and/or robbed while you're fishing it's time to move.

I would find a new area. Imo there is no point in staying in a place you don't feel safe. Even if you have a gun, that might escalate the situation and nobody wants that. A gun is an option though, I just personally think its better to be in a place where you feel safe than to be in a place where you dont.

Lol I only have to worry about grizzle bear. Most fisherman in alaska carry a .44 magnum so people don't tend to try and rob you.

My (extremely restrictive) state allows for CCW while fishing. If you're out in the middle of nowhere, maybe get an EPIRB/PLB ?

You should talk to a therapist about this anxiety.

I'm more worried about rattle-headed copper-moccasins than anything else.
I have met some interesting people out fishing. Never felt threatened or in danger myself.
I do carry a gun and a hatchet though, just in case somebody comes along that shoulda known better than to try to mess with somebody out fishing.

Its not just when fishing gotta be aware of your surroundings everywhere these days.
I haven't had any problems yet but being a woman would like to explore more secluded spots on the lake, but don't feel comfortable doing it alone. I do have pistols but not sure about the gun laws lately. Most of the men around this lake don't seem to be stalkers, just fishermen. But there are snakes. I see them swimming in the water close to the bank. One snake tried to come out of the water where I was sitting, so I took my rod tip and nudged it back in water. Just scared of snakes, any snakes. I ended up moving away from the area where I was fishing far away from that snake.
They sell pistol cartridges with buckshot just for those critters. 38 revolver works great load the first with a shot shell the next with a hollow pointe and so on.
Check the gun laws.
Best thing is to find a fishing buddy.

I agree with you completely. The best thing to do is to avoid everywhere that people might go. I hear Mars is nice this time of year and that the view of Saturn from any of its moons is simply spectacular. Book your trip now and avoid the rush. And get a bazooka. No one f--ks with a bazooka.
Anyone F’s with me ... they get their ass kicked! Period. I don’t care if they’re armed or dangerous. I’ve been in some very intense situations while living in Central America. Im still standing! I’ve been stabbed, shot, and attacked by a mob with machetes and bats. All because I was a Caucasian American fishing and surfing in some very anti U.S. places. My suggestions are; learn how to defend yourself, martial arts, gun safety & defense classes, &
be aware of your surroundings at all times. If your not comfortable or feel compromised, get out! Also, get a dog & bring it with you. My Boxer would die to protect me. 🏄🏼♂️🎣

A gun is like your insurance policy...better to have it and never use it than to need it but not have it!
