Me too Gordon, sounds like a good idea though, and you could soak 'em up good with an attractant in a sealed container between trips. Maybe good in small patches too, for catfishing ?

I have been using this type of bait for about 10 years for lobsters. I also add some fish to the bait bag in the trap which is usually consumed in about 3 days. The cow hide lasts for several weeks but is not cheap. I just paid $109.00 for a 5-gallon pail.

Down here they use bull lips on trotlines and in crab pots. The one crabber told me that used to use tongues until they got popular in restaurants. I ain't eating either of my own free will and as long as there are other prey items out there.

Bull lips don't think they are available here in New Hampshire. My friends in Florida use pig feet and chicken in their crab pots. The cow hide is brined in lime, salt and water and it sure is strong smelling and the lobsters seem to like it.
