At my sisters mountain cabin there's a creek that empties into a lake/pond, would the mouth of that creek be a good spot to fish or should i stick to the bank/cover?

If it’s got water flowing, it’s a good spot.

Most likely a good feeding spot there jeffy. Especially if you know what they are hitting. Sounds like you are in a mountain trout area. Fly or jigging, sounds ideal there.

Inlets are great. High concentrations of food sources. Most fish seem to love em.

For sure there usually great
Its a great spot anytime you have a chance to go. The best time is when the water is moving. If you can cast up stream and let the water wash the bait down on to the point which is one side of the creek mouth. The 1/2 the water run over first is the upper side and the other side is of course is the lower side, the are in between the 2 halves are call the channel, drop off etc. The area of the upper side that sticks out in to the water is the point as is the lower side. If your fishing the bank easy towards the area so not to scare off fish. Through out in the deeper water and work the bait up the point towards the bank.
Been my experience that is a great spot as the incoming water brings down food. Cast above the mouth and let the water bring the food down to the fish. Try to stay behind where the fish are watching upstream.
Incoming flowing water is always a good thing and a good place to start but just try to remember that most creeks that flow into a water way or a river have a different food chain. What I mean by a different food chain is that a creek that runs into a river or larger lake tends to have things like worms and bugs in it not bait fish. So your best bet would be to use a warm in a natural color but not a spinner or crankbait so just try to match the hatch as best you can.
