Fishing a trout tournament next weekend...any tips?

I am fishing a tournament next weekend and this will be my third year fishing it. Historically, we have always limited out using power bait or worms on a slip bobber.

The lake is stocked with rainbow trout several times a year and it is a well known trout fishery. There are many holdovers and the rainbows can commonly be in excess of several pounds.

We typically have done well in 25-40 for of water and catching them anywhere from 18-22 ft when fishing power bait off the bottom and about 6-12 feet deep when drifting works.

I recall the prior years had the biggest fish caught on lures. One year a guy caught the biggest fish fly lining a jointed rapala. That was the first I had heard of that technique.

Anyways, wondering if anyone had any “go-to” preferred rigs for trout fishing? Just looking to see what ideas other people have.

Thanks!!

Rooster tail and a bullet panther have always served me well, when in doubt finesse jig but i prefer spinners.

Lil Jake's, Thomas Bouyant, and Kastmaster are all very popular lures for fishing lakes. I love Lil Jake's and catch the vast majority of my trout on them. Silver with red dots.

Don't get fixated on a single bait or lure. I would start with some lures, inline spinner, hair jig etc. Then move on to the classics like powerbait, shrimp, or corn.

I have been researching hair jigs like the marabou jig. How do you fish these? Do you attach anything to the hook, or just drop down to desired depth and tank up and down?

I just cast them out then slowly retrieve while twitching it up, basically use it like any other jig. Sometimes it just works when nothing else is for me.

Marabo Hair Jigs for casting and vertical jigging deep water. I do not tip mine with anything. Just hop it along.

I just finished a video showing what I use and how we make the jigs. The second half of the video shows a really good trolling lure called a Tasmanian devil that really works well. https://youtu.be/TVK-MSX6TT4 I'm going to make a new post on here with that video.

Use a water bobbers held by a swivel to a 4.5 to 5 foot leed line to a royal coachman fly or a black pistol Pete's with a propeller on front it's like a rooster tail with a propeller they sell them at walmart get largest size they have just cast it reek it in semi fast and there's the wake bam

Make sure you check water temperature so you get the correct depth they are suspended at. Rainbows like the 61 degrees, browns 56-66 degree range.
