Lots of luck and good weather!!
Good Morning Gordon,
I hope you nailed those cats yesterday! You mentioned that you can't be near water without a pole. I can related!..Lol When I lived in Charleston, I kept a rod n reel and tackle in the trunk of my car. I worked downtown on Broad St. near Adgers Wharf where the Charleston Harbor Pilot boats are berthed. This spot was famous in the inner city for fishing from shore. This area has been revamped since I moved away but still accessible for fishing. The area was known for slot reds, trout, flounder, and shrimp. The incoming tide toward the grass was ripe with bait so the fish followed. One of my friends had his rod n reel snatched from his hands one evening by a bull red. He managed to get the fish to the edge of the wharf to pull it up and that bull red raised his head and pulled the rig from his hands and swam off. It was a huge fish!
Large black drum were also caught at that spot. Fishing straight out into the deep water bottom fishing yielded large croaker, whiting and trout. I would head to that spot some evenings after work instead of going to the "Happy Hours Spots" for drinks..Lol..Did some of that too!..Lol..A neighbor worked at the State Port on the Mt. Pleasant docks and spoke to some divers that were checking the pilings that support the dock. He asked them what kind of fish did they see and they told him that they saw man-sized black drum and lots of other fish under the dock but the drums were enormous! When those huge cargo ships are being berthed, they stir up a lot of bait, so the big fish hangout under the docks. My neighbor tried fishing that area but when he hooked something, he couldn't bring it in because the fish would wrap around a pier and he would lose the rigging. He tried using 40-50lb. line but they would wrap and hold until he had to cut the line. Exhausting! No fish caught! Have you herd of Hobcaw Point in Mt. Pleasant? Was always know for slot reds.. Well, guess you can tell from this message, I got too much time on my hands this morning! Top of the day to you! Tight lines!
