Hauled the old Rranger down to Florence Marina and went up to Rum Creek (Taliaphoga) this past Wednesday. I was expecting a post spawn bite so I targeted deeper water on the channel drops, ledges and secondary points going into the creek with a Carolina rig. I caught one small spotted bass in the "stuff" in the mouth of the creek and one small spot on a clay point drop-off a little way into the creek from the river. That was it.
Watched several other boats in the creek and none catching anything. This tells me that the bass bite in Lake Eufaula has moved to the channel ledges, which is typical for this lake this time of year.
My next trip will be 50 miles upriver to West Point Lake. It is another world of fishing strategy than Lake Eufaula and time for me to change venue.
