Hello fellow fisherman, I am going to be headed to my home state of Louisiana and haven't fished any saltwater for the past 20 years. So I need some help on what is a good inshore saltwater rod and reel setup that's good, strong and affordable. My trip starts in the first week of May so please let me here from yall.

Go to Walmart and get a 7' Ugly Stick Combo. I use Med./ Heavy

No one mentioned the reel for your set up. Not sure what your budget will allow. If it’s limited, Penn and Okuma offer some salt water friendly models that are a little more reasonably priced. You might want to focus on a 4000 series reel. All other major brands offer quality reels at a bit higher price points. Spool it up with 20 pound braid and add a 3 foot 20 pound mono or flouro leader. Good luck!
